Community engagement

Community Engagement and Awareness are among the top priorities of the FBI Cleveland Citizens Academy Alumni Association. We strive to reach out to the community in various ways and develop and execute programs and events that focus on our mission of improving understanding and encouraging appreciation of law enforcement among citizens and community leaders. Highlighted below are just some of the programs our organization leads and supports.

Community Engagement Council

In the process of being formed with all nationalities, religions, and races working together to bridge the issues challenging our local community. The goal is to bring law enforcement agencies together with local community members to provide a better understanding of racial and cultural sensitivities. Through education on hate crime-related issues, presentations from different cultures and religions, and hands-on training, we hope to reduce the number of hate crimes and encourage harmony among ethnicities and law enforcement.

Light Ohio Blue

Light Ohio Blue is a statewide campaign during National Police Week to honor law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. Light Ohio Blue also strives to show support to the currently serving law enforcement personnel who protect our communities throughout our great state. The FBICLECAAA coordinates access to blue light bulbs, and encourages the bulbs be placed in an outside pole lamp or on the front of your home as an indication of your support for surviving families of Fallen Officers and actively employed Law Enforcement Officers.

Flags for Honor

Each year, we offer you the chance to join the FBICLECAAA united in gratitude and remembrance as we host our Annual Flags for Honor event in September. By honoring both our active and fallen heroes, we not only pay homage to their sacrifice, but also strengthen the bonds within our local community.

Each flag raised is a testament to the courage and dedication of those who serve — be they FBI agents, military personnel, law enforcement officers, firefighters, medical professionals, educators, coaches, or even cherished family members and friends who have made a profound commitment in our community.

This event is about more than just flags – it’s about making a difference in our community. Each year the proceeds from Flags for Honor support vital FBI Community Outreach programs, that empower local students and Cleveland area executives through education about national security challenges. Additionally with the dollars raised, we are able to provide scholarships to students attending the Tri-C Police Academy, offer assistance if needed to families of fallen and active Cleveland Police officers, and continue to foster positive relationships between law enforcement officers and our community's youth.

FBI Memorial Service

Each year in May, the FBI Cleveland office honors the men and women of the FBI family who lost their lives serving the American Public.

We are thankful to those Fallen Special Agents and Professional Staff of the FBI who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and safety.

“To keep the memories alive of those who served in the past and gave their lives in the line of duty, to make sure they’re not forgotten,” said Todd Krajeck, Assistant Special Agent in Charge Cleveland FBI.
